ASV asked:

I mean how well do hybrid cars hold on to their value 5 years later? Any study or data?

    Probably not very good.

Apparently hybrids do not have as good of resale value as expected. No hybrids were on the top 10 lists for resale values from edmunds.com or kbb.com. Things might be better now with the high gasoline price.

Considering that there wasnt that many hybrids being sold or made 5 yrs ago thats a hard thing to determine. I know that used hybrids have a good resale value right now do to the gas prices. I have seen used 2008 Ford Escape hybrids with very low miles go for more than the cost of new 08’s at the Ford factory sales.

One thing we were discussing on the lot the other day…. if someone was coming into trade in a hybrid ( and we won’t take them as trade in’s go figure), if it was 5 years down the road, the 1st question we would ask is were the batteries replaced?? The 1st question a purchaser would ask us would be the same. NO dealer ship is going to pay for new batteries. The seller or the purchaser is going to foot the bill for this be it by reduced trade in value or reducing the price of the car with the understanding that the purchaser will be replacing.

Just something to think about ;)
