Nokia Take Evolutionary Stride with the N97
The Nokia Nseries continues to lead the way when it comes to smartphones; a boast that is given further weight by the introduction of the Nokia N97. Following on from the hugely successful N95 and N96 models, the N97 is packed full of features and cutting edge technology. It’s little wonder then that the forthcoming release of this handset is one of the most hotly anticipated of the year.
The range of features onboard the Nokia N97 mean that it has more in common with a computer than it does with a conventional mobile phone. Nokia have introduced a sliding QWERTY keyboard, providing it with a whole new dimension when compared to earlier models. This allows you to take full advantage of the full range of applications and its impressive Internet functionality too. It does add a little girth to the main body of the phone, but certainly nothing to be overly concerned about. Whether you choose the Nokia N97 Black or Silver models is down to personal taste; however both look fantastic and feel great.
With both Wi-Fi and 3.6 MBPS 3G capabilities built in, it has never been easier to stay in touch with the world around you. Not only does the Nokia N97 have a 3.5” touchshscreen for a smooth navigation, but with a 640 x 360 pixel resolution, it makes Internet websites and applications come to life.
As with other Nseries models, the Nokia N97 has been packaged with a media bundle that leaves other smartphones firmly in the shade. The 5MP camera, complete with Carl Zeiss lens and LED flash, has become a bit of a staple in the range and makes another welcome addition on the N97. You can get snap happy too, with an incredible onboard storage capacity of 32GB. If that still isn’t enough for you, there is also a microSD card slot which can provide an additional 16GB should you require it.
Of course you’ll also get the standards media player package too with the Nokia N97. This includes video playback, radio and MP3 player. Better still, if you’ve got a phone packed with your favourite tunes, there’s an FM transmitter on board so you can play your music through a stereo rather than the onboard speakers.
Technophiles will also be pleased to note that, unlike some of its highly publicised rivals, the N97 also includes a Flash player; helping power video sites such as YouTube. If games are your thing, the inbuilt N-Gage capability will no doubt provide an added incentive to get your hands on this smartphone.
It’s good for business on the go too. Not only does the Nokia N97 features Nokia Maps 2.0 with built in GPS system to navigate your way from place to place, it also comes equipped with the full Microsoft Pocket Office suite. This gives you access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint and even a PDF viewer whilst you’re out on the move.
All this doesn’t come cheap of course; you shouldn’t expect to be getting too much change out of ?500. But as a complete communication tool, is the Nokia N97 Phone worth the price? Well the answer to that has to be a simple yes. This is a phone that has been purposely manufactured for the contemporary user. MySpace and Facebook sit neatly on the main page. There’s more technology than you can shake a stick at. A-GPS and the onboard electronic compass mean you always know where you are. Plus, it has a truckload of business apps to satisfy any working requirements you have.
As far as dual-layered smartphones go, this is certainly one of the most usable and compact as well. All of which lends itself very neatly to the modern consumer who wants everything in one convenient bundle.
It won’t be available until June; however at least one site that I know of is shipping it out a little earlier. If you’re interested in getting a Nokia N97, and let’s face it, who isn’t?
